After moving to Seattle from England with my two young children aged 5 and 7 it was important to me that they stay connected with their friends, family and culture.
When Marie Laywine (www.marielaywine.com) friend and art associate approached me with the idea of 'The Wish Flag' project, I was excited about the possibilities. I began to make a proposal to my children's school in Sammamish and to their previous schools in England to do a community/international Wish Flag project.
The idea for the project was to have the children find an inner wish and express it. This was a very fun and imaginative way to have children across the globe learn about different cultures and ways of life. In each school the children produced a small booklet describing their everyday life at school and documentation of the project.
The Wish Flag project was very well received by the school community where over a 100 children participated.
The Wish Flag Project was displayed outside the city hall in Sammamish in time for the farmer's market opening to be enjoyed by the wider community.
